Love well. Give wells. | 2007 Projects | 2008 Projects

People are dying from the lack of clean water. In fact, it's the leading cause of death in under resourced countries. 1.8 million people die every year from water born illnesses. That includes 3,900 children a day. The solution to this problem is directly beneath our feet. Drilling a fresh water well is a relatively inexpensive, yet permanent solution to this epidemic. $10 will give a child clean water for life. That's not an estimate. It's a fact. And here's another fact: Solving this water problem once and for all will cost about $10 billion. Not bad considering Americans spent $450 billion on Christmas last year. Our hope is that, by celebrating Christ in a new way at Christmas, the church can serve as the leading movement behind ending the water crisis once and for all.

Advent Conspiracy asks that every church and organization who participates in this program give at least 25% of their offering to the water/redistribution project of their choice. For three years, Advent Conspiracy has partnered with Living Water International to help solve this problem. Oh, and no money comes through Advent Conspiracy.

HAITI RELIEF PROJECT

Haiti in the Wake of Hurricane Season

Four tropical storms and hurricanes battered Haiti in August and September—Fay, Gustav, Hanna, and Ike. The storms killed more than 1,400 people, and flooding left nearly 1 million homeless or in dire need of help. The situation is desperate, and is getting little public attention in the outside world (read the full story here).

Many of the water wells in the affected areas were contaminated, buried under several feet of mud, or destroyed altogether. Areas where flood victims have been evacuated are overcrowded, and badly in need of safe drinking water.

The LWI Haiti team is doing all they can to repair wells in the hardest-hit areas—particularly in the devastated city of Gonaives. Shipments of parts are on their way, and with current resources, they will be able to repair nearly 50 broken-down wells in the next weeks.

But here's the thing: with more funds, the team would be able to complete projects on 100 additional sites in dire need of water. Each well costs about $3,000 and serves an average of 1,500 people, so every dollar counts. Please consider making a special gift for this relief project

The harvest is ready but it starts with YOU! Each one must reach one and we have been made

HUNGER

THANK YOU FOR VISTING
and SHARING IN
MISSION 4 MONDAY!
[if you need more information on participation, please click & go here]

Since this week is THANKSGIVING and
times are tough for many & getting more tough daily, perhaps you are not celebrating as usual...but still giving THANKS! My heart aches for you but it makes me very aware of the days in which we live and the sufferings of many, especially children that are HUNGRY!

I am not affliliated with any of the following organizations, however I know the benefits they bring & offer those less fortunate than ourselves: Those  in HUNGER

Scope of the problem

An estimated 854 million people in the developing world currently do not
consume enough calories to sustain healthy bodies

"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ as found in Matthew 25

What is hunger?

Hunger is when people do not get enough food to provide the nutrients
(carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water) for active and healthy lives

Malnutrition results from a lack of calories and/or inadequate consumption of
one or more nutrients such as Vitamin A or iodine.

Famine is a situation of extreme scarcity of food, potentially leading to  widespread starvation, which is defined as extreme suffering or death from prolonged lack of food.

HUNGER KILLS~Did you know every day 25,000 people die from hunger and hunger related causes? Of those, 18,000 are children. One person dies of hunger every 3.6 seconds. That is more than 17 people each minute; 1,042 each hour; which translates into 9,125,000 every single year! One in six people on the planet is hungry.

More fatal than war~An estimated 17 percent of all deaths in the world are due to malnutrition and unsafe water. In the last 50 years, more than 418 million people have died
from hunger and poor sanitation--nearly three times the number of people who died in all wars of the 20th century.

What is Chronic hunger?

Chronic hunger reduces the body's ability to function and leads to a weakened state, leaving a
person more susceptible to disease. It's these preventable illnesses that often lead to death.

When hunger progresses into starvation, the body literally eats up all its reserves of protein and
energy. At this point, even with intervention, a victim may be so weak that he or she may not recover.

Hunger’s real causes

World population is not the reason for it—contrary to what some might believe.

The real reason nearly one billion of the planet’s 6.7 billion people are undernourished is because
of food-distribution problems, natural disasters, government policies, civil unrest, inequitable trade policies, lack of knowledge and greed.

What FOOD for the HUNGRY is doing?

Food for the Hungry currently impacts individuals in 26 countries, attempting to alleviate
hunger and malnutrition in the world. At Food for the Hungry, we are accountable before God
and before our donors to use gifts in the best way possible. We give 91 percent of our resource
income to field programs and relief interventions.

What you can do?

Food for the Hungry offers many ways to help.

(1)Perhaps you want to sponsor a child or (2) join our Prayer Network. Or you can(3) join our overseas volunteers for a few weeks with our Short-term Team Ministry or a few years
through our Hunger Corps program. (4) Or, you can donate online www.fh.org or by calling
1-800-2-HUNGERS.

Food for the Hungry currently impacts individuals in 26 countries providing emergency relief
and implementing development programs throughout the world. This includes our field  programs , exploratory programs and presence of our local-country offices (National Organizations). We help the world's most disadvantaged people through child-development
programs, agriculture and clean-water projects, health and nutrition programs, microenterprise
loans and education; teaching communities to become self-sustaining. Food for the Hungry is a Christian organization founded in 1971 by Dr. Larry Ward. For more information please visit www.fh.org

WORLD VISION they have the perfect solution for you Christmas gift giving!

Give a gift. Change a life.Choose one of the categories below to browse over 100 unique gifts.
The early-morning bleating of a dairy goat is a happy sound for children in countries like Haiti and Kenya — they know it’s ready to be milked. A goat nourishes a family with protein-rich milk, cheese, and yogurt, and can offer a much-needed income boost by providing offspring and extra dairy products for sale at the market. It even provides fertilizer that can dramatically increase crop yields!

  • Clean Water
  • Women and girls in developing communities often spend a large portion of their day fetching water for their families — water that may not even be clean. Your gift to the Clean Water Fund will help provide resources such as safe, protected wells, hand pumps, and latrines to improve sanitation. You’ll be safeguarding the health of mothers, children, and entire communities by minimizing waterborne illness. Plus, you’ll give mothers more time to care for their families, and girls the time they need to attend school.

  • Food & Agriculture
  • Every seven seconds a hungry child dies. As food prices soar, the poorest populations — especially children — suffer most. The current food crisis threatens to push 100 million people deeper into poverty, making children even more vulnerable. Please give generously to help us continue providing food and other care to those in greatest need.

  • Girls & Women
  • An estimated 2 million children are ensnared in the global commercial sex trade — most of them girls. Those who escape or are rescued face a difficult physical and emotional recovery process. Your gift will offer them hope through assistance such as medical care,... Read More

COMPASSION ~ CHILDREN IN POVERTY ~Many of you are familiar with SPONSORING a Child through COMPASSION but they have so much more that they make available to get involved & bless others with so much less.

"Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1 million children in 24 countries."

What is the Poverty Wheel?* [You can visually see this by going here.]
Poverty is a complex problem. The poverty wheel is a graphic representation of the problem of poverty.

The hub represents absolute poverty.

The spokes represent the different needs of those in poverty: Economic, Health,  Social,
Environmental, Educational, and Spiritual ~ Compassions shares this:
"Without an understanding of the Word and ways of God, it is difficult to understand yourself. Nearly four-fifths of our world’s children are growing up with no knowledge of God’s love for them through Jesus Christ. Compassion works in many communities where Christianity is not the religion of the majority. We cannot — and will not— coerce any child or parent to become a Christian. But many have decided to follow Jesus as they experience God’s love through the ministry of the local church partnering with Compassion. Children’s lives undergo a revolution when they realize that God loves and values them. They understand that they were placed on the earth with a divine purpose in mind. Many go on to develop a deep commitment to
discover and fulfill that purpose for God’s glory."

 The rim represents enough!!!!!!!

Compassion’s mission is to bring children from the hub of the wheel (poverty) to the rim (enough).

WHAT IS A "SOUL" WORTH?

WELCOME TO MISSION 4 MONDAY!

Many have shared some wonderful "missions" & causes that God is using you for, right where you are...serving.

If you are new to Mission4Monday and need more information, please go here. Or else, just look at the previous posts of others or this week to know we all were

MADE FOR A MISSION!

For example: when I was visiting blogs last week, over at Jill's @Forever n Ever n Always, she was sharing about Soles 4 Souls and many other great causes. So I chose Soles 4 Souls & did some research on them because here in Mazatlan, they do something similar. I've seen the great need of children and adults for shoes.

The 50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge

On November 10th, Soles 4 Souls launched a Charity Campaign - 50 K in 50 days meaning that in the next 50 days (from Nov. 10th) they want to raise enough money to buy 50,000 pairs of shoes and I want to make sure everyone knows about this great endeavor.

"The best part - $5 buys 2 pairs of shoes! It takes under 2 minutes and only three clicks to make a donation. So if you think this is something you can do...five bucks, three clicks and two minutes for 2 pairs of shoes, just visit http://www.50000shoes.com/."

Also, every person who donates on the site will be entered in to win a trip to Mexico to hand deliver the shoes they bought to families in need. Imagine handing a child their very first pairs of shoes!

One section of their website shows the GLOBAL NEEDS as being in Landfills (commonly known as Dumpsites here), Orphanages, and Village Women. I certainly can vouch for this need...as well as "street kids" and homeless.

They also distribute shoes in the good ole USA...in domestic areas such as:
Disaster Relief, Appalachia Mountains Region, Summer Camps for Disadvantaged Children, Navajo/Hopi Indian Reservations, Women Domestic Abuse Shelters, Inner City Hospitals and Homeless Shelters. You can read more about this by clicking here.

There are so many ways that you can help give one of the simplest, but most important gifts to those in need – Shoes. They even allow you to join in on the Distribution Trips.
Here
are their upcoming trips: Reynosa, Mexico; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Xela, Guatemala; Kampala, Uganda.

THIS IS AN AMAZING CHARITY...you can read much more about them at their WEBSITE http://www.soles4souls.org/ or BLOG http://soles4souls.blogspot.com/

SOLES 4 SOULS has a MISSION: make shoes available & get shoes to people who need shoes.
Over 300 million people around the world don’t have shoes and are forced to walk around unsafe and in potentially life-threatening conditions [not only is it unsafe physically, but having to look down all the time causes these people to also live without dignity and confidence].

WE ALL CAN TAKE PART IN THEIR MISSION

Let's help them reach this GOAL!!! 50,000 pairs of shoes in 50 days! Soles 4 Souls are "Changing the World one pair at a Time"(it's their motto)

Have you heard the expression "walk a mile in someone else's shoes"? The idea is that by doing so you may get a better understanding of their life or what they have walked through during their life to be where they are at. I pray that you will think of "walk a mile in my shoes" as you consider helping in some small to large way. Get the word out...though times are tough and may get tougher...everyone can afford at least $5.
[That's one fast food meal...you can give up and double the blessing] Please check out how you can get involved. You could end up winning a trip.

DO YOU BELIEVE "SOULS" CAN BE WON THROUGH PROVIDING "SOLES" FOR FEET?

"...Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ " Matthew 25:37-40

Thank you for joining MISSION4MONDAY or visiting the following participants!
Be sure to leave an encouraging comment & let them know you visited.

PRAYING for the PERSECUTED

Today I'm continuing PRAYER for the PERSECUTED CHURCH!

My MISSION 4 MONDAY is posted on my main blog with SUPER SUNDAY ~ SCENE ~ SONG ~ SCRIPTURE or even SERMON!

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER for the PERSECUTED CHURCH is part of being "SALT & LIGHT"

So, MR. LINKY is up for MISSION 4 MONDAY over there not here.(click on "there" or "SALT & LIGHT" or "SSSSS")

I could have just linked you to the various sites but I realize that many of you will not go there to read what you should read! So please take the time to read.

Taken from WEA...[pdf]...Religious Liberty Commission
'Life can be difficult for Christian minorities and harsh for converts.'
In places where human rights are poor and Christians are a minority, but where politics is secular or relatively progressive and religion is largely nominal, life can be difficult but not severely or pervasively.

'Christian minorities suffer systematic discrimination and persecution.'

This is one degree worse than the above category, usually because religion and politics are more intertwined and religion is less nominal.

'Persecution of Christian minorities is pervasive and severe.'

There are significant religious and/or political forces driving a campaign of persecution, such as the Hindutva forces in India, the ruling Communist parties in Laos, the clerics in the Muslim world (Islam being in fact a political religion).

'Historically Christian ethnic minorities at risk of genocide.'

Iraq: Islamist forces and sympathisers (Sunni and Shia) in Iraq are exploiting the chaos of war to 'cleanse' Iraq of Christians, nearly all of whom are ethnic Assyrians, the indigenous people of Iraq.

Kosovo (Serbia): The Serbian population in Kosovo (the historic and spiritual heartland of Serbia), virtually all of whom are Serbian Orthodox, are at risk of genocide on account of Albanian separatism and nationalism, and Islamic imperialism – different forces which assist each other.

Northern Laos: The Communist government of Laos is waging a low-level but genocidal war against the predominantly Christian ethnic Hmong of Northern Laos because of their longheld political stance: pro-democracy, pro religious liberty, pro-West.

Papua (Indonesia): The Indonesian government is waging a low-level but genocidal campaign against the predominantly Christian indigenous Papuans because of their resistance to Indonesian occupation, exploitation, colonization and Islamisation.

{09 (or 16) Nov 08} International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church [IDOP]

The following is a devotional available also from IDOP Refined in Fire

EMERGING GLORIOUS
from the REFINER'S FIRE
& IDOP Special Prayer

by Elizabeth Kendal

We are often reminded that we are living in 'the last days' -- the days between the resurrection of Christ and his return. We know these are the days of the Church, mission and the Holy Spirit, as well as days of tribulation and trial. But lost to most is the fact that these 'last days' are also the days of the Church's sanctification. Stories of tribulation and persecution generally feature the Church as victim and can cause us distress. Stories of Holy Spirit-empowered mission generally feature the Church as victor and can encourage us to feel strong, excited and expectant. But sanctification (the process of being made holy) invariably involves unpleasant truths, confession, repentance and humility; hard work, pain and reform. While sanctification is something we should covet and pursue no matter what the cost, tragically it is something to which much of the Church remains proudly and stubbornly resistant.
But God is indeed not only building his Church in the face of futile but fierce opposition
(Matthew 16:18), he is also sanctifying his Church in preparation for the wedding of the Lamb (Revelation 19:6-9). While persecution is to be condemned and opposed as injustice and sin, it is also God's refining fire, where disparate, drossy bodies are refined and molded into one in answer to our Lord's prayer that we should love him and one another with the same perfect unifying love that defines the Trinity (John 17:20-23). Further to this, while the godless get angry and perish in the fires of testing, the children of God look to HIM and in doing so come to depend upon, know and trust their maker more perfectly (Job 36:5-15). The refiner's fire is where faith is both tested and perfected for our benefit and the Father's glory.

If we are to be a holy nation (1 Peter 1:13 – 2:12), separated from all that is worldly and devoted wholly to God, then we must do as the bride is instructed to do: 'Forget your people and your father's house, and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him' (Psalm 45:10,11 ESV). Yet we cling to the world, and our beauty is marred by the dross of worldliness, idolatry and unfaithfulness. Those who think this is not the case are deceiving themselves
(1 John 1:8). We find it so hard to forsake the world, but God does not leave us to struggle in weakness. No, the gracious and faithful master craftsman is working on us all the time, as individuals and as a Church (local and global). Nowhere is this more evident than in the midst of persecution and suffering.

And so we pray: not only for religious liberty and for justice, deliverance and peace for the persecuted Church, but also for insight into what God is doing in the life of his people so that we can 'get on board' and actively participate in, rather than proudly resist, this wonderful sanctification.

God is purging idolatry, forging unity and removing those sources of worldly strength upon which we so adulterously depend. He is increasing our love and our faith. We must never despair over the loss of political power or influence, for the hope of the Church was never to be found there (Zechariah 4:6). An abundance of earthly lights (light pollution) causes the stars in the heavens to appear dim. It usually takes a power blackout or a trip into the wilderness for the glory of the heavens to be revealed. The same is true concerning advocacy for religious liberty and the persecuted church. An abundance of earthly powers may cause us to forget or neglect the greater power and love that is in heaven. A political-power blackout or a trip to the political wilderness may be God's gracious way of drawing our attention to him and reminding us of where the true power lies. Prayer is not a lesser form of advocacy, it is the greatest. So let us pray!

PRAYER

(based on Colossians 1:9-14, Psalm 45:10,11 ESV.)

Dear God our Eternal Father,

A great hostility is rising all over the world against your gospel and against your Church. Despite a decade of high-powered, economically-driven political advocacy for religious freedom, persecution of Christians is increasing in frequency, scope and intensity. Furthermore, because of geopolitical and economic changes, we are finding ourselves increasingly helpless (in earthly terms) to prevent it or even just escape it. Hardship, suffering, vulnerability and despair are spreading.

Father, we ask you to fill us with the knowledge of your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that amidst whatever this world and the prince of this world might throw at us, we may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to you, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

May those who are suffering and facing trials, hardships and even genocidal violence on account of Jesus Christ and his gospel be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy. May the Spirit fill them with assurance of their salvation and an anticipation of their great inheritance in the Kingdom of God's Son. May the Holy Spirit lift their heads, restore their souls and draw them into prayer. May the Father answer their prayers, deliver them from evil and increase their faith.

Father, by your mighty power and in your amazing gracious love and mercy, purge us of all worldliness, idolatry, faithlessness and unfaithfulness, that we might be the beautiful bride you so desire. Open our eyes and ears and soften our hearts to your will. Fill us with brotherly love for all our brethren. Sanctify us. Refine us in these dark days and strengthen us for the darker days that lie ahead. May the devil have no victory over us. May your glory be revealed in all the earth.

AMEN

THE DAY COULD COME FOR YOU or I, so we must uphold our brothers & sisters now in:

THANK YOU IDOP & WEA for making us AWARE of the NEEDS & HOW to PRAY!

THERE IS ENOUGH PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THIS ENTIRE WEEK & BEYOND IF YOU TAKE SERIOUSLY THE PERSECUTED CHURCH'S PRAYER NEEEDS
GO TO IDOP....http://www.idop.org/prayerrequests.html

Let the Lord choose for you which persecuted country you should uplift in prayer (if you cannot pray for all, it is better to focus on ONE then not pray at all)...
Here is an example of what they do for each country listed below ( I will use the first one AFGHANISTAN) If you click on the country's name you will be linked to IDOPs PRAYER REQUEST for that country just like I have shared for Afghanistan>

Afghanistan on map

PLEASE PRAY FOR– AFGHANISTAN

Continues to deteriorate. The Taliban's opium-funded insurgency is advancing. No liberty or security.

The nation:

  • for God to graciously reveal himself to Afghanis (Isaiah 65:1) and to intervene to frustrate the ways of the Taliban ( Psalm 146:9).
  • for God to move powerfully amongst the Afghan Diaspora, so that Afghanis in exile may become the parents, Christians, leaders and nation builders of the future Afghanistan.

The Church:

  • for God to bless Afghanistan's secret believers and keep them safe so the Afghan Church may live and grow to be an instrument of blessing (salt), transformation (yeast), and truth-giving (light) for the nation.

Forgive me for not taking the time to pray more fervently for these brother and sisters in our world and their endless persecution against them by their countries' governments and other religions. Wrap your arms around them dear Lord, shield them, protect them, guard their hearts. We lift up the leaders. We pray for wisdom, discernment, and courage for the leaders (and journalists) of the Free world. Let your Truths be known and promises be ever near to their hearts, minds, and spirits. We come against the spirits of tyranny, terrorism & propaganda that is false, and corruption rearing its ugly head throughout the world. Forgive us for being so comfortable and not realizing the many deceiving spirits roaming about to devour the nations & your people. Harden not our hearts nor allow us to be lukewarm but striving to encourage others in Christ Jesus! Let us continue to pray & seek Your will & Your way...

The desire of a godly king:

‘Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord; point out the right road for me to follow.’
King David's prayer in Psalm 25:4

Wise advice to a king:

'Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.’
Advice to King Lemuel from his mother. Proverbs 31:8-9 ESV

Encouragement to pray:
‘The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.'
Proverbs 21:1 ESV

Promise:
‘O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.’
Psalm 10:17-18 ESV

Mission 4 Monday sadly ended last year as a meme, but I continue to share here and I know others also share various MISSIONS, especially the people above. Check them out!!! Encourage and perhaps join us.
Since my life is a MISSION, I share whenever I can. There are many of you, who do community involvement/church events, volunteer opportunities or know missionaries that you could share to motivate others. Motherhood and Homeschooling are MISSIONS and callings!!!
Each of these are MISSIONS and important to encourage others.
If you are doing something or share someone's MISSION on your blog, please leave your info in the comments anytime! Hopefully others will notice & come visit. THANKS!
