COMPASSION in KOLKATA

Welcome to MISSION 4 MONDAY!
We were made for a mission!

This is where we share MISSIONS that have been placed on our hearts or in our lives. For God has given each of us a purpose & a unique plan to fulfill. If you a new to Mission4Monday, please click here for info.

A very special thanks to those of you (you know WHO you are) that faithfully have posted a MISSION4MONDAY whether you remember to link or not I appreciate it and if you are a regular and I notice, I have been linking you to MR. LINKY! Thank you for placing the button on your posts, I so appreciate it!

NEW FORMAT for MISSION 4 Monday: I no longer will be using the MR. LINKY for M4M
since last week.

The reason is not due to lack of participation because the QUALITY of those that do participate is SUPERB! I am truly blessed by each of you each week.

The reason is that I needed to decide between using Mr. Linky for SUPER SUNDAY or MISSION 4 MONDAY. Without upgrading with Mr. Linky, I can only post one Mr. Linky at a time or else you will notice this message below (and that is why and when it happens when there is more than one up):
This site is using Mister Linky's Magical Widgets. Click here to display the links for this post. Blog Owner: You may upgrade to display more than oneLinky at a time.

I noticed that it was not easy to do this so I thank you and appreciate you. I am listing my usual participants below and a link to their blog in general. You will have to locate their post for the week for MISSION 4 MONDAY post! Sometimes we have NEW ONES inspired!!!

Maybe YOU ARE NEW today! Again...WELCOME ... If you are new just leave this info in the comments: your first name, your blog name, the title of your post or URL(that's the part that starts with http://.....and ends with the title of that post)

MY MISSION FOR THIS WEEK, I mentioned in my regular blog on Saturday:

I am in prayer this week and supporting this very special outreach & project:

From April 26th to May 2nd, five bloggers will witness firsthand the ministry of Compassion International to the poor of East India. Visit this page daily to travel across the world to the impoverished neighborhoods of Kolkata through their stories, pictures and videos - and rediscover hope. Or you can visit the individual bloggers that were chosen to go to INDIA!

I'd like to draw your attention to what Anne Jackson has to say as she was leaving:

or Angie Smith here (and she has Twitter updates as many do in their sidebars):

She promises a post on Monday.

but Pete Wilson has the most current post at this moment:
"We flew into Kolkata, India this morning and after settling in went on a little tour to get familiar with the region. One of the stops was the home/mission of Mother Teresa. I grew up Baptist, so to be honest, we didn’t hear a whole lot about Mother Teresa. However, I’ve always been oddly drawn to her work. While I’ve quoted her and used her example in countless message illustrations I’m not sure I ever really understood the huge heart behind this tiny woman until today."
To read more please go to his blog but he finishes this post like this:
"One of my favorite Mother Teresa quotes is “I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world. ”

My prayer for this trip is very similar. God you are the author.  As pain filled and tragic as things are in India it’s still your story and I want to find out how I fit into it. God allow me to be your instrument. Allow me to be your bright hope in the midst of darkness. Allow my eyes and the eyes of everyone following this trip to be awakened to your call to action.

One woman followed God’s call and simply loved. Maybe you will too."

I would have to agree, if you have not done so already -

Sponsor a child
in India
who desperately needs your love and support

We CAN make a difference!

COMPASSION

Isn't that what it's all about?

LIVING Jesus!

Matthew 19:13-15

Then some little children were brought to Him so that he might lay His hands on them and pray.
But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.
14Jesus, however, said,
“Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away,
because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these.”
15When He had laid His hands on them, He went on from there.

During EASTER week, I had the privilege to attend A WOMAN INSPIRED Conference via the internet. There were many excellent speakers and if you haven't heard there is another coming up in June. Be sure to check it out here.

"A Woman Inspired - Ministry: Online "
June 8th - 11th, 2009
But that is their wonderful MISSION not mine.

However, I want to bring your attention an organization that part of the proceeds of each ticket went to help!

If you have not seen this video, you must take the time to at least go see the video
here for CYRUS INTERNATIONAL!YOU MUST SEE THIS VIDEO!

Cyrus International is committed to help organizations focused on stopping the practice of human trafficking. Our desire is not only to rescue those victims from enslavement, but to also provide physical and emotional rehabilitation. In addition, we support associations dedicated to bringing social restoration to these individuals so they have an opportunity to begin to build a healthy, normal life.

Worldwide, human trafficking has become one of the leading sources of profits for organized crime, generating an estimated $9.5 billion per year. Over 2 million people are trafficked every year, 70% being women and young children. Girls as young as 12 are stolen from their countries, smuggled into other nations and forced into a life of prostitution. The average victim is obliged to have sex up to 20 times per day.

[...to read the full article go to their site at Cyrus International and help them bring/restore HOPE!]

While researching a little about Cyrus International, I came upon another site helping children @

Inspired Bliss has an interview to introduce you to The Charis Project. To read more about the children halfway around the world being exploited in Thailand please become informed by reading @ Inspired Bliss!

You may be asking why do I care about these organizations?

Because I believe that right where I am living and perhaps even where you are living, are children being exploited.

God gave me a vision almost 2 years ago to begin a place here to give them shelter, refuge, hope. It is a burden in my heart and a passion I have in prayer only so far but I just was informed recently that a home has been started here by the name FLORESER ... which means "to bloom". I am praying for what part God wants me to have in this place. At the current time, there are only 2 girls, but I have spoken with them to let them know I'm willing to volunteer.

It will be the first safe home in the state of Sinaloa. They have the home already.
Bottom of a house, that has been given rent free for I believe 2 years. They will have about 14 girls living there

Below is how the directors explain Floreser
___________________________________________________

Floreser which means to Bloom was born out of a desire to provide protection & a safe place for young girls whose physical & moral dignity have been exploited & who continue to be in danger.

FLORESER is a safe home where these girls are able to rediscover their identities & to learn how to live with
dignity & respect in a climate of love & opportunity.

Please PRAY with me for my part & even your part in STOPPING TRAFFICKING OF WOMEN & CHILDREN!

BLESSINGS of JESUS!

Welcome back for Mission 4 Monday, where we share our hearts for missions! Thank you for taking the time to share your heart, concerns or issues that touch you with us by linking here and showing that "we are made for a mission". We each have one!

Holy Week (Semana Santa) is another tremendous time for outreach in Mazatlan, MEXICO because of the many visitors that arrive here during these two weeks, from last Sunday (known as Palm Sunday) until next weekend, also Spring Break for many. The beaches & city are jammed packed with thousands from Mexico and North America vacationing & partying.

So the YWAM base (Youth With A Mission)(known as JUCUM in Spanish) once more is taking advantage and evangelizing here. The following is what YWAM shares during:

Semana Santa Outreach 2009

We kicked off our annual Semana Santa outreach in a new way this year, with the January DTS students taking the lead. Our focus this time around was to mobilize the local churches to reach their city, through training and practical ministry.

Days 1 & 2 (April 7-8)
Roughly 30 youth from churches around Mazatlan came to our base early Tuesday morning to have two days of training with us followed by two days of ministry in the city. The atmosphere here has been really positive and energetic. The youth have eagerly participated in the busy schedule of training sessions, small groups, quiet times, work duties, and workshops that we’ve prepared, and, led by the DTS students, are ready to head out into the city Thursday morning to share Jesus on the beaches of Mazatlan. The students are divided into small groups that will be going out to minister in a variety of different ways, from picking up garbage to giving out free lemonade. Then, in the evening, we’ll be heading out again to do some street evangelism in the party zone.

The goal this year was to allow the DTS students to really step out in leadership and we’ve seen amazing results so far. With the base staff as a support system, the students have really taken responsibility and initiative and we’ve seen so much growth in them. The local youth have been amazing as well. We’ve been so encouraged to see them respond, giving up their vacation time to come and grow with God and learn to reach out with others. Many of the youth have also expressed an interest in missions, so please keep them in your prayers as we finish up the last few days of our Semana Santa Outreach
******************************************************

In Amistad Familiar church this morning, besides celebrating the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we inaugurated a new additional section for Young People on the second floor, built by visiting teams from USA/Canada.

Pastor Carlos also shared that the "FestiniƱos" (what you know as Operation Christmas with the shoeboxes) has a tally of over 25,000 children & family members, in the state of Sinaloa alone, that accepted Christ this past Christmas. Praise God! Now that certainly is reason to celebrate!

This small but very giving church is preparing for a Sports Event this June, for one week to share in sports while sharing Jesus (like a Sports Camp of Christ). They are planning on 1,000 children. They plan on giving each child a ball & a shirt plus have trophies!

May God help them with all the workers & provisions they need. Thank You Lord for all You are doing & stirring up here among the  children & young people! Our entire worship team was youth & children today! It's beautiful to see Jesus blessing this place through His children.
(This is so quick, you can miss it if you're not ready...I have others this short but do not know how to put them together! Just a taste of how sweet!)

MISSIONS are FOR EVERYONE!

Welcome to MISSION 4 MONDAY!

We were made for a mission!

This is where we share MISSIONS that have been placed on our hearts or in our lives. For God has given each of us a purpose & a unique plan to fulfill.

NEW FORMAT for MISSION 4 Monday: Each week I will just add a new MR. LINKY to this post until I am actively doing MISSION 4 MONDAY once more. My own Mission4Mondays will be listed along with yours.

A special thanks to those of you (you know WHO you are) that faithfully have posted a MISSION4MONDAY whether you remember to link or not I appreciate it and if you are a regular and I notice, I link you to MR. LINKY!

May God bless you and the MISSIONS that you inspire and inform us of each week.

We each have many great ideas that need to be shared to encourage others in serving. Each of us serves where we are, doing what we are doing from blogging to mothering to serving at church, volunteering our time for another, contributing wherever we DO! That is a MISSION if we do it unto Our Lord Jesus, it makes it an even more important one.

Please sign up with MR. LINKY for that week and post a MISSION that is moving you or touching your heart. Then be sure to visit & encourage others in their mission.

If you see someone with a MISSION, encourage them to join us PLEASE!

Justice & Peace

I totally missed this and Saturday was the last day but I feel compelled to share it nonetheless.
Though I come from a Roman Catholic upbringing and know about the Good Shepherd Sisters, I do not frequent sites of this nature unless God directs my path to that site and there usually is a good reason why I encounter such gems. This and these faithful servants of God are one of these anointed times that God speaks and leads me to follow this thread. If you knew me well then by looking at the photo graphic above it would tell you in part, why God led me here.
(plus this was in French, but they had English & Spanish options)

Prepared monthly by the Good Shepherd International Justice Peace Office.

This month’s prayer has been prepared by Katherine Ward

Beginning on January 30th and culminating on April 4th, the world will be commemorating the 12th annual  Gandhi/King/Chavez: Season for NonviolenceThe inaugural Season began in 1997 with the 50th and the 30th memorial anniversaries for Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Gandhi, Dr. King and now also recognized nonviolent organizer, Cesar Chavez courageously dedicated their lives to changing the ties that bound men, women and children into hopelessness and disbelief that equality in all facets of life is possible.

The commitment to nonviolence and peaceful resolution grows outward from a personal sense of spirituality to understanding and taking action in challenging the harm that all forms of violence has on oneself and others while refusing to accept violence as a part of life.

“The first principle of nonviolent action is that of non-cooperation with everything humiliating” (Cesar Chavez http://www.seasonfornonviolence.net/). The movementdoesn’t just stop there. While it builds upon the shared belief of loving and respecting each person’s humanness as an active approach in rejecting violence and oppression, the nonviolence movement strives for greater sociopolitical change.

  • Gandhi’s commitment to nonviolence led to India’s decolonization and freedom from Great Britain.

  • The nonviolent action and civil disobedience led by Dr. King Jr. jumpstarted the transformation in the United States by ultimately bringing about civil rights legislation.

  • Cesar Chavez organized migrant farm workers in the United States in nonviolently advocating for fair farm worker labor laws. His sustained efforts as the co-founder of the United Farm Workers led to changes to the US federal immigration law in 1986.

The United Nations named 2000 the International Year for the Culture of Peace’s and
2000-2010 the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World.

The UN called attention to the attitudes and behaviors required to live one’s life free of violence through the promotion of peace and non-violence reconciliation. In the “Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace” (UN General Assembly Resolution 53/2430) highlighted the main principles to live free of violence while promoting peace on all levels.

The 8 principles are:
• foster a culture of peace through education
• promote sustainable economic and social development
• promote respect for all human rights
• ensure equality between men and women
• foster democratic participation
• advance understanding tolerance and solidarity
• support participatory communication and the free flow of information and knowledge
• promote international peace and security

The rest of this article by Katherine Ward can be read here in its entirety including the above but the rest is more of what the Good Shepherd Community commits to doing. However, these excellent questions are applicable to EACH of us:

In celebrating this season of nonviolence, how are you as an individual and as part of a community calling attention to injustices and inequalities?

How do you feel motivated and driven by the love for each person in taking action towards transforming unjust systems and structures locally, nationally, regionally and internationally?
What are some ways to promote peace and extend ourselves to live nonviolently and act for greater societal change?"

GS suggests:

• Hold a vision of plenty for all the world’s hungry and be open to ways that as to how I can help alleviate some of that hunger

• Silently acknowledge all the leaders in the world

• Send an email to your Justice Peace Contact and share successes in your ministry of how you and Good Shepherd people overcame challenges

• Hold a vigil for peace to end wars and conflicts in our world

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR JUSTICE and PEACE?

Let us walk in solidarity with them and others, UNITED in prayer, prayerful ACTION & reconciliation. Nonviolence starts in our homes, modeled before our children. It is no coincidence that April is the month for "National Child Abuse Prevention" as well as "Alcohol Awareness Month"

This makes the following song come to my mind(click here for entire song):

We will work with each other, we will work side by side: And we'll guard each *man's dignity and save each *man's pride (*that includes men, women and children especially)

And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love...yes they'll know we are Christians by our love.

We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand:...And together we'll spread the news that God is in our land.

FOR WE ARE ONE IN THE SPIRIT, WE ARE ONE IN THE LORD...and we pray that ALL UNITY may one day be restored...

Added verse from me:

We will LOVE one another...We will love like Our Lord: And we'll give praise & encourage those who need our support.

DO OTHERS KNOW YOU ARE CHRISTIAN BY YOUR LOVE?

My prayer

Heavenly Father, May others know me as a Christian by my love. Forgive me for the many times I may have failed to be that LOVE to someone in need. Forgive me for not doing all I can for the many social injustices I see. Forgive me for not walking in the shoes of PEACE that You have asked us to put on our feet daily.Forgive me when I have not responded to circumstances or situations in a peaceful manner. Teach me, O LORD...to walk in Your PEACE & JUSTICE so ALL will know that as Christians we follow Jesus Christ, His Love and Compassion should direct all our steps in unity with one another.

Thank You for people like Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez, who fought for equality and justice for ALL. Yet You, O Lord have required each of us to do our part. Light our way and grant us Your Peace and a heart of a servant. We lift up the world's leaders and ask that You touch their hearts and open their eyes to the many injustices so that they will change the atrocities of so many and put an end to the suffering of injustices that they MUST prevent & stop in the Name of Jesus.

Since my life is a MISSION, I share whenever I can. There are many of you, who do community involvement/church events, volunteer opportunities or know missionaries that you could share to motivate others. Motherhood and Homeschooling are MISSIONS and callings!!!
Each of these are MISSIONS and important to encourage others.
