1-11-11 National Human Trafficking Awareness Day

[source: SOLD Project]
Monday, January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Across the country, anti-trafficking organizations are hosting activities, from film screenings to training on community response efforts.
Because I have been involved with this special (heart) project since the weekend (in part) because I thought it may be related to this "issue", which is my vision and mission project here in Mexico to STOP this, I did not post this yesterday as I should have, but now have posted it on that day, so it will be on the right day. And I still do not have time to write about  NATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY because of what I am currently involved with and am not at liberty to share, I am just linking you to two bloggers, who I follow and admire much for their dedication to do 'whatever' they can to STOP this from continuing and not one more victim. I would like for you to get to know them as well and pray or assist them in anyway. Thank you so much!

Today, I am sharing a guest post from a dear sister in Christ, with the heart to serve Our Lord.

I met Micey (Michelle Anderson) here when I did MISSION 4 MONDAY as a meme, and sporadically through Spiritual Sunday. I have seen her beautiful heart for the Lord through her service as a surgical nurse, right where she lives to those around her and in Haiti (two times and even extended her stay the last time)(it may be three times??? I should have asked her).

Micey is currently preparing for a trip a lot further than Uganda... please PRAY for her and listen to your heart, in case God is speaking to you to GO to UGANDA with MICEY. I know from her Haiti trips that she takes the time to update us as she goes... here's a link to a slideshow to meet her and Haiti...
yes, Micey has the heart of a missionary and loves Jesus and the people she serves... she's going with PIONEERS (Michelle Anderson and her account information is on her right sidebar)

(She emailed and asked me to update the 39 days to 66 days as God determines her steps) So without further ado... MICEY

Uganda in 39 days! 66 days

I’m so excited to start making serious preparations to go to Uganda! Today, I drove to Sarasota, Florida to begin the rabies vaccine series. Now don’t fret. They don’t give those injections in the stomach anymore. It was a small, painless injection in the deltoid muscle. I will go back next week for shot number 2 and 2 weeks after that for shot number 3. The most painful part of the vaccine is the cost in time and money. Why rabies? I’m going to be in the middle of nowhere, Uganda. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
I checked the tracking on the visa. So far it’s still at the embassy. It’s all good though because I trust Jesus to take care of all the details. I have made my list of things to do and pack and have begun to check things off. I need to buy a mosquito net tent because most of the weird African diseases are transmitted by mosquitoes or flies.
The next big thing I need to do is ask you if you would prayerfully consider making a small donation to help fund my trip. I need to raise approximately $1000 over the next 39 days. This will help cover the expense of actually being in Uganda – room + board, transportation. If just 100 people would donate $10, we could raise this amount in no time! Please join me on this trip. I would be so honored to have you along. I will write a post a day while I am in Uganda so you won’t miss any of the adventure! Thanks for your consideration! And of course prayers are most definitely coveted!
If you would like to help me get to Uganda, please click this Paypal link to donate. If you would prefer to send a check via snail mail, use the contact form above and I will provide my address. Thanks!

Journey Unit Content Page | Journeys | American Bible Society: DAY 1: PEOPLE

I started a 40 day JOURNEY today with American Bible Society (ABS) called "The Least of These". It has been offered to churches to start on January 16th... so I'm a little ahead of the church starting day. ABS has so many options available. I had started reading the full Bible at the beginning again but I wanted a plan that would challenge me in my MISSION purpose and serving "the least of these".

Here is ABS description of this one:

Poverty, war, famine, disease; there are a lot of things in this world that are unsettling. While the solutions aren’t always so clear to us, God’s Word can be a frequent reminder that everything is under God’s control and that in the end, he will bring justice to all who have been oppressed.

However there is also one on JUSTICE and POVERTY and individual concerns as well, like DEPRESSION, LONELINESS, ANGER, ANXIETY, PRAYER etc. with 7 day, 40 day, 100 day, ongoing choices[I highly recommend checking out BIBLE JOURNEYS under Bible Ministry with ABS]

So for TODAY INSTEAD OF JUST READING FROM GENESIS, which I had done earlier (chapters 22-24),I was able to go back and read Genesis 1 starting with verse 26 and 27... but READ more to REFLECT on "being made in God's image"

"Many have argued over what it really means to be “made in God’s image,” but at the very least, it indicates something profoundly significant about humans. To mistreat people is to forget this crucial fact: they are made in the image of God. This affects not only who we are, but how we behave.
These words in Genesis help us understand that each of us - every man, woman and child - bears God’s stamp. As we understand and live this out, our lives reflect the One who created us. Instead of oppressing others, we empower them; instead of standing idle, we get involved. We stand up for justice, speak out for the powerless, and love the unloved.
Why? Because we’re taking after our Father in heaven."

and RESPOND to a great suggestion ABS makes and their prayer:

"Build up a picture of what God is like. Every time you read the Bible, write down what it tells you about God, perhaps in a journal.
Lord, I look at the stars at night, and I wonder why you care about us. I look at the earth, and I wonder why you’ve been given us such immense responsibility. You are the ruler and yet you trust us to rule. You are amazing!" ~ ABS, JOURNEY, "THE LEAST OF THESE"

WHY NOT JOIN ME ON THIS JOURNEY?... or choose another... they're all great!!!

...and because I wanted to be up to date, I read up until DAY 7, which was CHILDREN (perfect for my MISSION or anyone) from the reading in Matthew 19:13-15

"Jesus also gives stern warnings about anyone who causes them to fall  into sin (18.6). The abuse, neglect, oppression and exploitation of and exploitation children can do exactly that: tripping them up and ensnaring them in sin, self-destructive behavior, shame, despair and rage.
It’s a rescue mission: go find them, save them from the hands of those who would exploit them,  give them what they need to flourish and, most of all, bring them into the presence of Jesus." ~ ABS, "The Least of These" ...
Journey Unit Content Page | Journeys | American Bible Society  DAY 7: CHILDREN

PRAYER for the CHILDREN: yours, mine, and others... each one matters to God! Thank You, LORD for these gifts from You, their joy and laughter, their energy and enthusiasm; their precious loyalty and love. Guard each on and protect them. Bring them each to the saving grace and knowledge of You as their Lord and Savior! Each of us as Your Children have been made in Your image. Thank You Lord!

Today (actually Thurs.) I was reading through and catching up in my Google Reader, my heart broke for these women that I don't even know... through a blog friend's post (that I have not visited for a long time), Sharon's Quiet Reflections, I came to be awakened to yet another horrific injustice...

I had to post this back a few days from when I actually read "I Can Not Forget" by Sharon and followed her link to WHEN WAR CAME but I knew that I had to share this here and read further about this dilemma.

This is appalling...WHY??? why is this allowed to go on... why? A BATTLE AGAINST BRUTALITY

“Since fighting began in August 1998, 5.4 million Congolese have lost their lives in the second deadliest conflict since World War II. Some 45,000 people die each month; children account for 47 percent of those deaths…Killing is routine. And so are sexual crimes against women and children. In Eastern DRC, the prevalence of rape and other sexual violence is described as the worst in the world. The situation is grim, complex and largely ignored by the Western world.” (American Bible Society)

I am so thankful for AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY! If you take the time to read any or When War Came
you will hear much about this wonderful woman...

Through Journeys, God’s Word can be delivered by SMS and a variety of other methods such as e-mail and audio.

I thank God for you Mama Jeanne, you are HOPE in the Congo for so many... and I agree with this article
GIVING ABUNDANTLY (where I borrowed your beautiful photo)... when John Walter writes:
"I smile when I realize I have seen a face of Christ." How very true!

PRECIOUS IN GOD'S EYES (each and everyone) how can these people be so forgotten? and we think our lives are complicated or we feel forgotten... does not even come close to these horrific stories. I plead with you to become aware and make others aware...take the time to read the stories of 7 who shared in WHEN WAR CAME ... and Sharon's Quiet Reflection where love and passion drive compassion to share from her heart for these sisters in Christ.

I truly do not have the words to share about this other than to ask you to PRAY and ask God to STOP this.
I have no idea how this nation can be called Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) because this is so far from democracy or JUSTICE!

"There is a desperate need for ABS and the Church in the West to sit up and take notice of what's going on in the region" Briggs says. "We're going to do all we can to help."

His promise to the Congolese: We will not forget you. ~ from American Bible Society(ABS), A Battle against Brutality

We can no longer close our eyes to what's happening in the world. Just taking time to read this or pray is taking time away from you, but it's a small sacrifice in comparison to what others are suffering.

*comments are closed so you take that time to read at least one of these links... and PRAY

January 11th is Human Trafficking Awareness Day and on Monday President Obama proclaimed the month of January to be National Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Part of the proclamation:

"...The victims of modern slavery have many faces. They are men and women, adults and children. Yet, all are denied basic human dignity and freedom. Victims can be abused in their own countries, or find themselves far from home and vulnerable. Whether they are trapped in forced sexual or labor exploitation, human trafficking victims cannot walk away, but are held in service through force, threats, and fear. All too often suffering from horrible physical and sexual abuse, it is hard for them to imagine that there might be a place of refuge.
We must join together as a Nation and global community to provide that safe haven by protecting victims and prosecuting traffickers. With improved victim identification, medical and social services, training for first responders, and increased public awareness, the men, women, and children who have suffered this scourge can overcome the bonds of modern slavery, receive protection and justice, and successfully reclaim their rightful independence.
Fighting modern slavery and human trafficking is a shared responsibility. This month, I urge all Americans to educate themselves about all forms of modern slavery and the signs and consequences of human trafficking. Together, we can and must end this most serious, ongoing criminal civil rights violation...."
Check out this great list of actionable items that you can do to help end human trafficking and slavery in 2010:  There's something on there that every single person has the power to do.  Use this honorary month as motivation to lend a hand and get started!
