"Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Memory loss is an example. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia."

"Alzheimer's is diagnosed through a complete medical assessment. If you or a loved one have concerns about memory loss or other symptoms of Alzheimer's or dementia, it is important to be evaluated by a physician."

There are many ways that the enemy of our souls can *steal* our lives. And one of the worst, in my opinion, is by the ravages of dementia. I often wondered where my father "went" as his memory and mind failed. I wonder the same thing with my mother. Where is she? But then, I am consoled by this one truth. That no matter where her mind may "go," her spirit is held firmly where it's always been - right in the very hands of her Savior.

This verse has brought me great comfort as I apply it to the journey of dementia with my parents:

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand." (John 10:27-29, ESV)

And for those who may not know the Savior yet, I am convinced that God is able to speak to the spirit, beyond the mind, and that a decision for Him will never be made impossible. Prayers for you and yours...
